The Brooks/UNF Neurologic Residency program initiated the first training class in November 2007 with three residents that will complete their training in December of 2008. The 2009 session is now underway.
This program will have a strong collaboration with several external partners including Shands/UF Hospital of Jacksonville, the University of Florida and the University of St. Augustine. Pam Spigel, PT, MHA is the Coordinator for the Neurologic Residency program. The faculty are comprised of a mix of strong clinicians and academic leaders from around the country.
Pam hosted a curriculum development meeting for the neurologic residency prior to implementation of the curriculum development consisting of physical therapy expert clinicians in the area of neurologic physical therapy from the University of Florida, the University of North Florida, the University of St. Augustine, and the University of Southern California/Ranchos Los Amigos Neurologic Residency program. The USC/RLA Neurologic Residency is one of the two physical therapy neurologic residency programs currently credentialed by the APTA.
The Brooks/UNF Neurologic Residency Program will seek the APTA Credentialing status within it's inaugural year. It is the expectation that the Neurologic Program will attain the prestigious APTA Credentialing status in the near future similar to the path that the Brooks/UNF Orthopaedic Residency Program followed.
